We're not sure how many kids have been begging their parents to get them a
Segway but we're guessing they'd be pretty disappointed when they flipped over their brand new "Dareway" only to discover it has not two, but three wheels, and none of the Segway's fancy gyroscopic stabilization -- or stylish good looks, for that matter. It does look to be a surefire way to cause dizziness and vomiting, however, able to spin a full 360 degrees in place at speeds specified only as "a lot quicker than you would expect." All for just £149.99 (just under $300 US). Unfortunately, this one's only for sale in the UK and, you know, intended for kids, so you'll have to wait a bit longer if you've been hoping for a cheaper alternative to everyone's favorite human transporter.

dizziness and vomiting? kids? oh come on, you never played on a sit&spin when you were a kid? the vomiting never happens that I have heard of, and dizziness is what it's all about man

Don't ever send a link to that terrible talking headed Neo-Fight... This was the first thing i saw and talk about a terrible pod/videocast... It MIGHT be an okay audio podcast but the video version is absolutely hideous and awkward... never do that again... ;)

People seriously need to rediscover walking.
Psoulfinger @ Aug 16th 2006 9:38PM
They should turn it into a ride on vacuum cleaner and let the kids do something useful while they're at it.
Aaron @ Aug 17th 2006 12:45AM
I agree with Kevin, make 'em walk. At least when they're kids. I mean, if you allow laziness at a young age, that's what's going to stick with them.
rickm @ Aug 17th 2006 8:03AM
I hope it can hold a lot of weight, because with the ballooning of kids now it's gonna have to.
Doc GlowGadgets.com @ Aug 17th 2006 8:31AM
The Dareway (which is nothing at all link a Segway) IS available Stateside from the UK. GlowGadgets.com will send it to Umbongoland if the customer pays for the shipping.

Finally! A product to give kids a little relaxation after a jam-packed day of XBox, MySpace, sitting at a school desk, sitting in the lunchroom, and sitting in the living room. I mean, good God, how are children supposed to keep up with the blazing pace if they don't have a walking aid?
Actually, I think there should just be a built-in toilet so there's no longer need to go to the bathroom. Not to mention the robotic feeding arm so the child doesn't even need to raise that Big Mac to his gelatinous face.
Let's hope this thing doesn't cross the pond, because more often than not, obesity isn't a disease, it's a lack of will.

During its pre-market hype, the Segway was code-named "Ginger" (remember, it was going to be bigger than the Internet). They should have called this thing "Mary Ann"

Hmmm... there still seems to be some confusion out about the technical specs of the Dareway. Some sell it as being 12V, some as 6V. Maybe it's something in between... for instance, two 6V motors powered by a 12V battery?
Then, how fast exactly does it go? When the first pictures of the orange prototype arrived, it was said to go 5.6 km/h (3.5 mph). Now its sellers on eBay state 1.8 km/h (1.1 mph). Now this is a huge difference. And are the motors now 42W or 48W? Is that 2 times 42 or 2 times 21?
Then there's still the question how well it does on inclines. I know, this will probably vary with the rider weight. But I'm interested in electric vehicles in general (and small electric vehicles in special), so I'd like to have some more exact data if someone has any. Finally, is there a video of it somewhere?

Kurt. Be real. The fact that you are taking this thing seriously is making my face hurt. Knock it off.
