BMW's System V Bluetooth motorcycle helmet
Not to be confused with MOMO's and Motorola's recent release of their Bluetooth
Fighter Helmet, BMW has themselves whipped up a Bluetooth
motorcycle helmet called the System V. Though it's a great dell less attractive than Moto-MOMO's helmet (and its name
is just a slight bit more intimidating than the freaking Fighter Helmet), it's still pretty well equipped
itself, with its fibre glass, carbon and Kevlar laminate shell, two array mics up near the forehead (not our first
choice for location, but whatevs), a DSP to cut back on wind noise and interference, two speakers, integrated
batteries, and, of course, the Bluetooth headset module.

I am just guessing that they put the mics up there (forehead area) just to avoid some wind interference either from the pilot's breathing or the wind that circulates beneath the helmet when driving.
Just an idea...

the reason BMW put the mic(s) up by the forehead is because the helmet's entire front half (not just the wind-screen) can be opened while it is being worn-- the front half of the helmet swivels at the temples. BMW has had this style of convertible full-face helmet for over a decade, making some of the most sophisticated and comfortable helmets around. if i'm not mistaken, BMW has offered Bluetooth in their helmets for a couple of years now-- certainly predating the moto-momo helmet. the BMW helmet will also actually protect your head in a collision.

I am out to get another of these helmets. A few years ago they put out this helmet with bluetooth, however, they all shorted out when they got wet, so they withdrew the bluetooth capability for a few years till they could fix it. This is the reintroduction. I bought my first System V after the bluetooth had been withdrawn in anticipation that they would reissue it and I could back fit it to my helmet and get the second rider helmet with the bluetooth already installed.

Whoa! Can I carve a charging cradle out of a cave wall, with a nice little halogen spot over it, and an elderly English butler to bring me the helmet when the red phone rings?
ER, never mind. Forget I said anything.

Sounds like a great idea but do we really need to multi-task while riding a motorcycle? What happened to being one-with-the-road? Whatever...I'll probably buy one anyway.
